SMOKE
release date: march 18 2022
SMOKE is a charged and honest commentary.
This song encapsulates the widely felt frustration and disappointment during these horrific fires that burned 24 million hectares of Australia in 2019 - 2020.
After returning home from the UK, having completed a master’s in Sustainable Development policy, Lucy was shocked to see our government ignoring the signs of the upcoming fires, that were predicted years earlier.
Do you see the flames?
Do you see the flames?
He doesn’t soak up any blame.
Empathy staged, they’re all the same.
Do you smell the smoke?
Do you smell the smoke?
Leaves black, ash will fall.
On the ground, life no more.
There’s people here, who should be in charge.
Knowledges far richer than ours.
They don’t need another fleet.
Running our country like a profit machine.
This song comments on our government’s pathetic response to the crisis whilst simultaneously highlighting that it is perpetuating natural disasters like these by investing in fossil fuels and other harmful environmental practices. The track also points out that there will be no climate justice without First Nations justice.
