RELEASE DATE: FEBRUARY 21 2024

The Wizard

Whimsical, heavy and fierce. The Wizard is shaping up to be one of The Wattles’ most exciting tracks yet.

preview the unreleased track below:

Sydney-born indie rock band, The Wattles, moved to London late last year to pursue the scene abroad.

Since arriving, the band have released two songs from their debut Fooled EP, ((I Want To) Feel It All and Take It Or Leave It), and played live at iconic London venues like the O2 Islington.

Next up is their most energetic track, The Wizard.

Slightly heavier in style than their other tracks, this riff-based song came about whilst James (lead guitarist) was experimenting with delay and distortion at practice. Influenced by Australian psych-rock bands like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Pond, and bands from abroad like IDLES and Muse - this one is full of colour and pace.

This song talks about the heaviness when those close to you change ‘shape’, the long-lasting discomfort of conflict, and setting boundaries with forgiveness. The fierce and slightly dark vocals drive this message throughout.

He changes shape
A shape I don’t like no more
”Forgiveness is key”
They chant to me
But I’m not ready
I’m not ready
It burns
And I don’t even know you
Right now
Don’t even show you
Right now

Early last year, the band won a recording opportunity at Golden Retriever Studio through Sydney’s community radio (FBi Radio) where they recorded this EP alongside Simon Berckelman.

The band are launching this track at their next headline gig at the iconic venue, The Bedford, on Wednesday 21 February 2024.
